Education System in Suriname - An Overview
Suriname, officially known as the Republic of Suriname is situated in the northern part of South America. The Atlantic Ocean, French Guiana, Guyana and Brazil form the boundaries of Suriname. It is also one of the few countries which was under the rule of English and the Dutch, instead of the Spanish rule as most of the other South American countries.
The climate in Suriname is tropical and hot due to its location close to the sea and the equator. It experience heavy rainfalls and the average temperature ranges between 29 to 34 degrees Celsius.
The Education System of Suriname has made provisions for primary, secondary and university level of education. Education is compulsory till the age of 12 and the literacy rate recorded in 2004 was 94%. An average span of education in Suriname is of 13 years.
